Brainspotting: Phase 2 Training
- December 2021
Online Zoom - English

Course Details:

Brainspotting is a brain-based therapy based on the hypothesis that specific eye positions designated as “brainspots” activate and access specific areas of the midbrain that allow for the reprocessing and releasing of core neurophysiological reactions to trauma-related and other psychological experiences.

In addition, brainspotting is built on a model that emphasizes therapist-client presence and attunement in the healing process. As an open and integrative model, brainspotting is adaptable to many different areas of specialization and can be integrated with other treatment models.

In this intermediate level Brainspotting: Phase 2 training, participants will be given a review of the four basic brainspotting techniques learned in the Brainspotting Phase 1 training and acquire basic mastery of five more advanced brainspotting techniques.
Learning objectives:
Participants of this intermediate level course participants will be able to:
  • Summarize the research on client-therapist attunement in in-person and online psychotherapy sessions.
  • Set and utilize the dual attunement frame.
  • Explain the way in which bilateral auditory stimulation may enhance processing during brainspotting.
  • Explain the role of the allocortex and the agranular isocortex in brainspotting.
  • Describe the oculocardio reflex and its relationship to the vagus nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the z-axis and vergence therapy techniques.
  • Explain how the one-eye brainspotting technique can focus and enhance processing of trauma-related experiences.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the use of the one-eye brainspotting technique.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the use of the rolling brainspotting technique.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the use of the advanced outside window brainspotting technique.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the use of the advanced resource model of brainspotting.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the combined inside-outside brainspotting technique.
  • Demonstrate a basic mastery of the second level advanced resource model of brainspotting.
  • Assess how specific advanced brainspotting techniques can be used for complex PTSD and other trauma related conditions.

    Requirements and expectations

If you are unable to adhere to these requirements please do not register for the training.
    1. 100% attendance is required for each day.  This means it is not acceptable to leave the training for a few hours to go attend another meeting etc. and then return to the training. If you are unable to attend 100% each day then do not register for the training.  In case of an emergency, we are happy to refund your registration fee and you can take the training in the future.
    2. We realize there is a pandemic and sociopolitical issues which have caused strain in many areas to say the least.  However, if you are not able to be fully present for whatever reason(s) please do not register for the training.  This training is highly experiential and REQUIRES your full attention and presence.  The inability to be fully present adversely impacts other attendees during experiential practicums. Opting out of practicums is not an option.
    3. There is usually a lot of individual and group healing taking place during the training. However, the training is not a substitute for your own personal therapy. If you have a sense that you would be destabilized by yourself or others speaking about difficult events, then this training may not be for you. We do not have the resources to support extreme psychological difficulties.
    4. ***Please make sure that you are in a quiet area where there are no other people or noise around. We want to ensure a conducive environment for learning and practicums.
    5. Pointer, bilateral music, and David Grand's book are essential material to have ready before the training. You must have them before participating in the phase 1 training.
    6. If you do not have a Zoom account, you need to register for a free account with Zoom and use your laptop or desktop during the training. Do not use cell phones as the screen size is too small for the training.
    7. Having your Zoom video on most of the time is highly encouraged even though we recognized you need to take breaks from the screen. It is not acceptable to have the video off the entire time during training.
    8. No recordings on any device is allowed.
    9. Recording is for the trainer's personal use and is not included in the registration.
    10. You are required to fill out and return the post training reflections questionnaire before the completion certificate can be issued.
    11. By registering for this training you agree to the requirements and expectations
