Phase 1 Course Details

Learning objectives:
​Participants of this introductory level course participants will be able to:
  1. Summarize the standards of care and professional practice of the International Brainspotting Association.
  2. Describe the hypothesized neurological underpinnings of how brainspotting works.
  3. Summarize the research that supports the hypothesized way in which eye positions activate and accesses midbrain activity.
  4. Explain the uncertainty principle as it relates to brainspotting.
  5. Describe the concepts of simultaneous neurobiological and relational attunement.
  6. Explain the importance of client-therapist attunement during brainspotting.
  7. Explain how the treatment frame is set and held by the therapist.
  8. Explain the role of focused mindfulness in brainspotting.
  9. Discuss the similarities and differences between the activation and resource models of brainspotting.
  10. Explain the concept of limbic countertransference.
  11. Demonstrate basic mastery of the use of outside-window, inside-window, gaze-spot & resource model of Brainspotting techniques.
  12. Assess the appropriate brainspotting techniques for the treatment of Post-traumatic stress disorder, including the Dissociative Subtype, and other trauma-related symptoms.
  13. Describe two challenges to assessing and providing evidence-based treatment to individuals with Complex PTSD.
Training material:
  • Participants need to purchase own pointer and Dr. David Grand's book Brainspotting "The Revolutionary New Therapy For Rapid and Effective Change" ( paper or digital version) as requirements for attending the training. More info can be found on the resource page here. 
  • Participants will receive a digital manual for Phase 1 Brainspotting training. 

Continuing Education Credits

  • All who completed Nancy's trainings will receive a "Certificate of Completion" (21 contact hours) within two weeks after submitting the "Training Evaluation Form".
  • Continuing Education Units are offered through EngagedMinds Continuing Education Erena Digonis, LCSW, PLLC. She is a NY-S, NBCC, and ASWB approved provider.  
  • Nancy's trainings are eligible for 21 CEs: 18 Clinical Hours and 3 Cultural Competency Hours.
  • The custom link to register and pay for CE for Social Workers, LPCs, MFTs will be available on the Member Only Resource page on Nancy's website. 
  • Important: The Continuing Education Credits/Hours are only available for purchase before or during the live training by Day 2.
